How Is Covid-19 Affecting 2020 Weddings In Ireland For Us At Dublin Wedding Photography

Balyna House Wedding Venue Kildare

Covid-19 & 2020/21 Wedding Photography Bookings

With everything up in the air at the moment many couples are worried about their 2020 weddings. From our own experiences, since early March, we're seeing couples looking to move dates from March/April/May out to August 2020 at the earliest, with other couples postponing weddings out to 2021 - some couples with weddings in May are waiting to see how things play out over the coming weeks.

We're more than happy to reschedule any bookings at no extra charge if we have availability later this year or in 2021; we don't rely on booking fees or deposits which means we don't have concerns about refunds. We're also keeping our prices as they are until May 2021.

For couples thinking of rescheduling, my advice would be to first contact your wedding planner, if you have one, or wedding venue. If you have to move to another day of the week besides Friday or Saturday, always the most popular, then Sunday would always be the first choice if possible. After that, Mondays and Thursdays.

After you have secured a rescheduled venue date then look at your next biggest wedding day expenses: check your wedding dress supplier, bands, photographers, videographers, hair and make up, singers, flowers - you will need to prioritise what's most important to you and work your way down the list. If it's a civil ceremony you'll also need to rebook your celebrant, and maybe update your forms for any new dates if they are outside the permitted timeframe.

Every wedding venue and supplier is doing their best to accommodate rescheduled weddings, and your guests will understand if things have changed.

Please bear in mind that weddings are one of those few occasions where young and old people mix in close proximity for extended periods of time. No one knows when this virus will pass, but it seems to mainly affect the elderly and those with weakened immune systems, so do carefully consider their well being above all else; how we treat the most vulnerable in our society in times of need is how we will all be judged as a society.

If everyone behaves and follows the best medical advise hopefully we should be over the worst of it by late Spring. That said, it’s early days yet and everyone is keeping an eye on how things progress over the next 2-3 weeks, hopefully by Easter we'll have a better idea of where we're at.

As wedding photographers, of course we're going to be hit hard financially, but so are most people who are self-employed or work in the wedding industry, or in catering, tourism, retail, or any industry which remotely depends on humans coming together ... anyone for whom working remotely just isn't an option needs to be treated with respect and compassion.

We all have worries and anxieties about family and friends, making ongoing payments for mortgages, rent, food, electricity, loans, healthcare, internet access, etc, not to mention how to take care of and educate our kids. Healthcare workers and teachers have stepped up to the plate, again, and now banks, creditors, and the revenue need to follow their lead.

Perhaps, more than anyone else, we look up to everyone in the emergency services who continue to carry on caring for us all despite the risks they must take while dealing with this unseen enemy.

In time, we will prevail because that's what we do. We will be challenged. We will adapt. We will overcome.
